Jobs in Structural Biology and Related Fields

PhD position in cellular development (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 65%)

University of Tubingen, Germany
Application deadline: 16 Oct 2026

Our newly established group studies the structural basis of the changes occurring in molecular complexes during cellular transitions. Specifically, this project will investigate the cellular changes occurring during cell development at high resolution by applying cutting-edge imaging technologies such as volumetric EM, cryo-ET and state-of-the-art image segmentation.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated candidate with good teamwork skills who can work independently in a goal-oriented manner. The ideal candidate should have an MSc in Biology or Biochemistry with prior knowledge in electron microscopy (cryo-EM or cryo-ET). We also welcome applicants with an MSc degree or equivalent in a field connected to computational sciences (ie physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, computational biology) with motivation for crossing disciplines to solve complex biological processes. Experience in Plant Biology and/or development is not required; you will be introduced to the field with us.

Environment

The ZMBP is a world-class institution in molecular plant biology, benefiting from brand-new infrastructures within the University of Tübingen science campus. The institution counts with a collaborative environment with multiple research groups working on various aspects of plant biology. Additionally, you will also benefit from established collaboration with know-how on cryo-ET data processing and access to state-of-the-art cryo-microscopes. Tübingen is an international, dynamic, and lively university town.
